Hip and Groin Pain

What is Hip Pain?

The hip joint is the largest weight bearing joint in the human body. In anatomy it’s known as a ball and socket joint and although the hip joint is very durable, it can degenerate over time due to age, overuse, or injury.

As the hip joint becomes more degenerated, you are much more likely to experience acute or chronic hip pain with groin pain and anterior hip pain often happening together as your anterior hip joint is roughly in the same location.

It can be difficult to tell what’s causing hip and/or groin pain because the pain can radiate from your groin to your hip, or hip to groin. This type of pain can build up over time and gradually get worse or, in some cases, start suddenly. You will feel a sensation of a dull pain or a sharp burning pain.

Some common causes of your hip/groin pain are:

  • Osteonecrosis
  • Bursitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Hip fracture.
  • Muscle Strain
  • Tendon Strain
  • Tendon or muscle strain
  • Labral Tear
  • Osteonecrosis
  • Femoroacetabular Impingement

What is Groin Strain?

Groin strain occurs when any of the muscles that attach to the pelvis and insert into your femur get injured by being overstretched or torn. This causes inflammation and pain. It often happens because of overtraining, repetitive stress, during a short burst of movement, or by moving your hip awkwardly. A muscle strain can be mild or severe depending on the extent oy your injury.
